Monarch Windows and Doors was originally founded in 1888 by Raleigh McGee Jenkins, Sr. as Jenkins Lumber Company (JELCO) in Birmingham, AL. The company supplied all types of building materials to contractors and lumberyards in the surrounding area. His son, Raleigh Jr., eventually joined the company and in 1936 became president when Raleigh Sr. retired. Under his leadership, Jenkins Lumber Company evolved into Jenkins Manufacturing as it migrated from distribution into manufacturing. Jenkins was a family owned and family run business, and our current management has made every effort to maintain that family-like atmosphere at Monarch. One of our core values is to maintain personal relationships with our customers. We value cheerful employees who always demonstrate a willingness to help.
Jenkins Lumber Company moved to Anniston, AL. in 1962 to accommodate their expansion and to create a facility that would house equipment for window manufacturing. Since that time, Jenkins has added on to the facility four times and now occupies over 200,000 square feet. We take pride in the efficiency of our manufacturing processes and have some of the shortest lead times available. Our associates produce some of the finest quality windows and exterior doors in the industry.
Monarch’s market includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippa, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. Our window product offering includes: wood windows, aluminum clad windows, and cellular composite windows. Our door offering includes: wood, aluminum clad, and fiberglass hinged exterior doors and clad sliding doors. Our customer base consists of lumberyards, building materials suppliers and window and door distributors. While many of our larger competitors require large volumes of business before a dealer can handle their product, Monarch specializes in supplying customers that desire a more personable supplier. This fosters a long lasting relationship built on old-fashioned values. We prefer to work closely with our customers and assist them with their specific needs for residential, commercial and architectural applications.
Monarch Windows and Doors was purchased by Woodgrain Millwork, Inc. of Fruitland, Idaho in 2007. Monarch Windows, Atrium Doors, Redstone Custom Doors, and two manufacturing facilities of Windsor Windows and Doors comprise the window division of Woodgrain Millwork.
Woodgrain began as Dame Lumber and Moulding, founded by Bud Dame in 1954. Bud pioneered the manufacturing of wood moulding. In 1984, Dame Lumber and Mouldings merged with a subsidiary to form Woodgrain Mouldings. In 1988, the name was officially changed to Woodgrain Millwork. Bud’s two sons, Reed and Kelly Dame, are currently the owners of Woodgrain Millwork.
Monarch is proud to be owned by such a large and successful company. Woodgrain has grown into the largest manufacturer of mouldings and interior pine doors in the United States. Five separate divisions are now part of the Woodgrain family; Millwork, Pre-Finish, Distribution, International, and Windows and Patio Doors. Woodgrain Millwork currently employs over 6000 people in twenty-eight different locations, including three in South America, and one in Canada.
